Schneider 5 - 24/04/05
An excellent turn out for the Schneider 5 Mile and supporting fun run organised by Wrekin Road Runners. A new course record was set by Tom Humphries of Cannock & Stafford in a time of 24:13. Thanks to all those involved. Results for the main race and fun run are here. Photos of the winners to follow shortly. Photos of the race (thanks Nellie!) can be seen at John Sanders' new web site - telfordrunning.co.uk.
London Marathon 17/04/05
Congratulations to a number of the Wreckers (first and second claim) who ran this this year's London Marathon. Good to see Paula Radcliffe take some training advice from The General!! Times are as follows:
Simon 'Lundy' Lund  2:54:11
Tony Nicholls    3:16:56
Ian Budd   4:28:40
Ken Richards   4:33:33
Newcastle 7
This was an "undulating" course, with a downhill second half.  Quite a climb (long rather than steep) followed by a nice flat and downhill finish (apart from the sneaky last 100m round a corner and up a slope!).
Kath Ling racked up another PB with a great time (300th Kathy Ling Wrekin Road Runners 1.23.09).
Ironbridge Half Marathon
At the Ironbridge Half Marathon on Sunday, Paul Ward from Wrekin Road Runners became the Shropshire Half Marathon Champion, finishing 2nd overall in the race, in a time of 1:12:51.  There were some good performances from other Wrekin Road Runners - Paul Williams 1:24:17 took third position in the O/50 category, Jonathan Wysome in a very good time of 1:42:10 in his first half marathon, Pat Adams 2:12:00 and Kathy Ling 2:49:00.

Village Bakery Half Marathon 20.2.2005
PB definitely possible, not flat but no serious hills - watch out for one long gentle climb late on which always seems to be into a headwind. A quirk of the route is that the last small ascent to the finish is done THREE times... right at the start, then at the end of the first and second loops. The setting is not that pretty for spectators, but at least they get to see you at the end of the first loop after about four miles and again when you're knackered. After wet weather lanes can be a bit muddy/splashy but nothing serious. Previous years featured four sponsor-baked baps in the goody bag when you finish, this year was a great improvement with the Chairman's favourite Bara Brith on offer to all................
Glorious weather this year- and a string of personal bests for participants in the main event. More Road Runners next year?
279 Ian Budd (number 302) 1 hr 50m 59 sec PB
Wyre Forest 8 mile- 13 February 2005
More mud than the muddiest muddy thing ever… caked up to Kathy’s armpits. Mud enough for a new garden back home. Fun though. Nice gentle downhill start followed by the quagmire by the river, a few climbs, nothing outrageous but really noticeable once the mud has sapped you a bit and a bit of a drag back up to the finish. Well worth a day out. The snow added to the mud as the presentation took place, outdoors...
Well done Phil, Jo and Kathy. For the rest of us, get the race recommendation and enter early for the Wyre Forest Half- the same picturesque trails as used for Wyre Forest Eight.. only longer and in Summer. I got a not o healthy sun tan out there last year I took so long...

Ken Richards (WRR 2nd Claim)
One of the most popular five-milers in the country. Thanks to those who organised this one- managing a full house of very good facilities and splendid (nice) cooling drizzle. Some roadrunners are still out looking for their promised goody bags. This is a good early season work-out for the club, with some very respectable times recorded. It also represents not so sneaky practice for the first club handicap race on Tuesday. Photos of Pat and Kath.

Marrakech Marathon 16.1.05
Wrekin Roadrunners Paaat and the General took on the Marathon Challenge in a whole new continent- picking up some much needed winter sun on the way. The Marrakech marathon course and conditions were ideal. At the start it was a little cool and then the sun came up and heated things up a little but with the dry air it was still quite comfortable. The water stops were every 5K and were well stocked with bottled water, raisins, dates and orange sections. The course was flat and the scenery was definitely Moroccan; the old city walls, palm groves, a couple of camels 'parked' along the road, etc... are things we don't see on winter runs in Telford, short of a trip to the the local pub beforehand.
With all the things going for it, it's too bad they don't add a few little 'perks' for runners such as toilet facilities or finisher's medals, and the General ended up paying more for his Pasta than would have been the case in Bella Italia. At 3 hours they started taking down stands, finish line, etc. and also let the traffic resume because the organisers had only gotten permission for 4 hours from local police, despite the fact that there were still people on the course! Monsieur Emery got lost (plus ca change) and confused the locals as he asked the Camels for deer-ec-shorns.
Well done again for the team for proving that the Wrekin Road Runners are probably the best travelled small running club around.
Full Marathon - 369th Pat Adams 5h 01m 56 seconds
Half Marathon - 1418th Ian Emery 3h 10m 52 seconds
Four Villages Half-Marathon 23.1.05
Only three Road Runners were organised enough to get their applications in before Helsby Running Club again put up the sold out signs. The three making the annual pilgrimage to Helsby in Cheshire to take part in the annual Four Villages Half Marathon were all successful. The morning was cold but with bright sunshine, so it was always going to be good running conditions. The winner Michael Aspinal from Lancaster got round in a very respectable 1:07:27 and the leading lady Louise Gardener also from Lancaster finished in 1:14:46.
The race saw great performances from Dave Mansbridge and Paul Muller in this early year half-marathon favourite. Both guys picked up first place in their age group categories, and positions within the first ten overall.
7th David Mansbridge 01:13:10.45 MV40 1
10th Paul Muller 01:13:51.90 MV45 1
1504th Kathy Ling 02:57:51.80 FV60 12
