Ironbridge 4 and a bit Miles - 2nd June
Twenty five club members took part in the 4th race of 2008 sexarathon series the Ironbridge 4 mile race. Congratulations especially to Jayne Randall who took part in her first race for the club. There was surprise in store for the regular runners of the race with a diversion of the normal route that included a bit of a hill, at least there was less mud than in 2007. Shugborough Relays
Once again there was a fantastic club turn out for the annual Shugborough Relays enabling us to enter 11 teams, more than any other club. Despite a shower right at the start the weather was not too bad although it was getting somewhat dark as the last runners completed their legs. You can see pictures and a video from the event by clicking here. Other photographs taken by Bryan Dale can be seen by clicking here and by Mick Hall by clicking here.

Stourbridge Stumble 14th June
I was looking forward to this race as it was in the evening and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a beautiful evening and a good turnout. Apart from a short part of the course on tarmac the rest was off road. It seemed to be uphill all the way and on a single track, which was good because you had to keep going.
I was doing quite well until halfway when an angry horse rider blocked the single path and we had to walk for a while- this threw me off my rhythm. I was pleased that I still managed to get in under the hour. I received a humorous memento- a horse brass which will remind me of this race.

Newport Carnival 10K - 14th June 2008

After leaving the town the route took us along country lanes, through a potato fields and back to Longford Hall. Nine club members took part.

Race Report bt Cath Berry
It was a lovely sunny day for this race. I found the first half a struggle but really enjoyed the second half. There were plenty of hills!
There was great support from the locals who hosed us down, supplied extra drinks, oranges, ice lollies and sweets all along the route. Those finishing under 2 hours received medals and everyone else got a t-shirt and goody bag including a commemorative plate. I would do this race again.

On Sunday 30 March Kathy Ling took part in the Monaco 10K road race. At 10:15, an hour and a quarter after the marathon race had begun the 10K was started by Prince Albert and followed the route of the famous Monaco F1 Grand Prix. Kathy reports that on a hot and sunny day thay she ran mostly up hills and through tunnels on very smooth road surfaces. She finished a great time of 79 minutes completing her run before the marathon winners finished. Kathy received a good quality medal and goody bag but seemed to have enjoyed the Champagne most of all.
