Enville 10K- July
Report by Kathy Ling
It was a very hot morning for the Enville 10K and there was a very big hill. As I was running through the second field I was stopped by Brian Smith who wanted to take a picture of me in front of Enville Hall. When he finished faffing around he said well get going, this I found difficult as I approached the big hill. By the time I finished the 1st lap the winners were coming in, however I got stuck in and completed the second lap. I am please with my time which was 1 Hour 44 minutes, 9 minutes faster than last year. I was told my memento had not arrived so it was two cups of tea. Although it was better marked this year there were still not enough marshalls. How ever I enjoyed it and would do it again.
Vic Musgrove 5K- 21st July
23 club members turned up to run the 5th race in the Sexarathon series, it surely has gone fast. Unfortunately due to the weather and how dark it was the pictures didnt turn out so great.

Ingleborough Fell Race- 17th July
Report by Linda Edmondson
Got back on the fells and was a bit apprehensive since first time since May Bank Holiday. Got round in 77.16 - especially pleased since I had to sit this one out with a sore back last year.
JCB 5 mile- 15th July
Report by Kathy Ling
After fixing john with a food parcel we battled with tea time traffic through Stafford and got to JCB on time. There were 500 entries and the race started at the bottom of a steep hill. The race was two laps so we had to do the big hill again. I managed to pass three people and I still came in last because they dropped out muttering something about the ‘Bleep bleep hill’. I was pleased with my run after Sunday’s Wyre Forest half. My time was about 65 minutes. We were lucky with the weather as it started to rain when we got back in the car.
Much Wenlock Olympics 7 miles- 11th July

Wyre Forest Half- 11th July
Report by Kathy Ling
The Wyre Forest half marathon was a challenge. It was very hot and dry and at about 7 miles my feet became sore. This is something I have never experienced before as although I put plenty of vaseline on, sand got into my trainers. I was feeling the heat and sore feet but no way was I giving up. I was determined to finish the race, the marshalls were very patient with me. At the finish I had a nice mug, bottle of cider and £10 M&S voucher for over 65. My feet were blacker than night but once I had my cold bath with ice cubes I felt refreshed. I learnt a lot from this experience.

Crown Classic 10K - 9th July
The weather was kind to the marshalls and helpers this year although probably a little warm and humid for the runners who negotiated the obstacle course down Dawley High Street! For results click here
Forest park 5K 7th July
Report by Linda Edmondson
I enjoyed my favourite 5K at Birchwood near Warrington - it's off-road and ladies only with everyone getting flowers. It's not a pb course but I was pleased with 24.08 which is my best time ever for that course (and I've had some shockers here!). Also nice to welcome Grace Hough to an "away fixture"
she was first L60 in 23:50.
Shifnal 'Steeplechase' Half Marathon - 4th July
Report by Steve Gill
On a sunny and very very windy morning we set off to see the 4 church steeple's on the course.Well that's the idea anyway. For those that haven't done the race before it is over mixed terrain of tarmac, grass and dirt tracks between the town of Shifnal and 3 village's returning to Shifnal.
As stated it was windy and although it did cool you down it also slowed you down. That mixed with dust off the dirt tracks I thought made it a hard race.I believe a certain Jason Harland + Kelvin Bierton thought otherwise.
Fantastic time's by the forementioned.
A special mention must go to Denzil who ran the Black Country 1/2 marathon the day before.
Thanks also go to Kim Denning,Ian Emery and Kath Ling for their support.
P.S
By the way I didn't see any Steeple's apart from the one at Shifnal. I was too knackered to look out for them.
Provisional results as follows
Kelvin Bierton 1.30.18
Jason Harland 1.31.10
Stephen Gill 1.39.43
Denzil Martin 1.58.52 (completing his double for the weekend)
Deb Sandeman 1.59.33
Mark Evans 2.05.13
Wendy Scott 2.15.39
Sarah Turner 2.46.49

Stratford Summer Six 10k - 3rd July
This Saturday night race started at 7.30 in a very posh village called Wilmcote where Shakespeare was born. There were plenty of hills, nicely tarmaced roads which were good for the feet. It was well marshalled and the atmosphere of the villages was great even when I came in, the usual place....
The homemade refreshments were very nice and I got a T-shirt and coaster
Birmingham and Black Country Half Marathon - 3rd July
Denzil reported that the race was really hot this year and the course was 0.4 mile too long

Denzil Martin 1.59.50 (1.56.20 at 13.1)
Denzil wins the award for how far he can travel by train in the wrong direction.
Ironbridge 4 ( and a bit!) - June 30th
Thirty members were out in almost a repeat of last year’s weather conditions, I think it wasn’t quite as hot as last year (others may disagree!) Also in a successful repeat a meal at the Horse and Jockey was enjoyed by a substantial contingent including a triumphant Deb (age category winner)Thanks to Denzil for organising the meal.

Blakedown Bolt 10k - 25th June
Report by Kathy Ling
A really lovely evening with not a cloud in sight. Very hot indeed but plenty of water stops. This cross country included running through deep sands while you’re trying to run up hills, through lovely woods and very cool streams. I got great support from the crowd and was not last in this time.My time was 1hour 30 and I got a nut and bolt on a very nice ribbon.
Shugborough Relays - 23rd June
Another highlight of the year has gone past with 10 teams entered in this 8 mile relay race, 2 miles per leg. Members new and old took part with some members running twice. The two mile course goes through the parklands of the Shugborough estate. Rob Cope, as usual entertained us non-stop from his commentary seat ( which Clare wants to steal for taking photos from). Results will be posted when available and photos can be viewed by clicking on the Picture Gallery tab.
Wrekin Barrel Race - 20th June
Well done to Tom Portman who won the lunatic challenge (to carry a full barrel weighing 50 kg up the Wrekin unaided). Tom completed this in 30 minutes and a few seconds and took eight minutes of the previous course record. Meanwhile four Wrekin Road Runners won the fun challenge event, Sarah Aston, Kim Bennett, Mark Evans and Jon Aston carried an empty barrel up the hill in 23 minutes and 12 seconds dressed as the 118 118 men. All four had completed either a full or half marathon the previous day. Pictures taken by Clare Aston can be seen by clicking on the Picture Gallery tab at the top of the page.
Wombourne Half Marathon - 20th June
Report by Stephen Gill
An earlier start (9.00am) was gratefully received by all as the sun shone down. This event was pulled forward due to (I believe) a Vicar protest!.
The course is part through the town and then out onto country roads before returning to the finish line in town. This I add is a great PB course with only a couple of real hill's (at 9 miles and 12 miles - the later only a problem if your truly knackered). With all this in mind our times look absolutely fantastic.
Stephen Gill = Chip 1.31.57 Gun 1.32.03
Marek Kaminski = Chip 1.39.37 Gun 1.39.43
Now at this point I have to add that unfortunately my Garmen and a number of other runners were showing the distance as 12.5/6 miles ran.The Guy with the computer chip thingy was then saying maybe it was due to the 10th to 12th miles being mainly undercover of hedgerow.Me personally I think some one has made an error.I will keep looking at the web site and I will also follow up with an e-mail to clarify.
I am improving but there is NO way I could knock a full 8 minutes off my previous PB - could I?
I therefore am putting myself down for a New PB of 1.35.45 as I was aiming at 7.30 or lower mile pace and was actually doing that all way around.
Steve - possibly the new forest gump????
Malvern Hills Midsummer Marathon - 19th June

The Potteries Hash 175th
The Audley Maybee Hash
Report by Kathy Ling
Jan and I travelled up to Audley through nasty storms, the weather had calmed down by the time the hash run started. The flour markings were starting to disappear with the wet. However we ran through long grass with hidden bog patches, had a close encounter with a herd of cows plus two great big dogs, up two big hills, over many different types of stiles and managed to find our way back. It started as 5 miles, ended up as 6 miles but we got back to the Boughey Arms pub and dried ourselves and enjoyed a beefburger. We finally ended up doing a maypole dance getting the ribbons twisted but who cares?
Cader Idis Fell Race - 29th May
The Cader race (10.5 miles/3000 feet up and down the mountain from Dolgellau town square) was pretty wet – but at least drier than if it had been run in the morning.

Bulmer Bash 7 miles - 26th May
Report by Kathy Ling
The 7 mile Bulmers Bash was a little unusual running around the cider apple orchards at Wichenford. I thought it would be flatish-wrong, each orchard we went in was very hilly with quite long grass. It was a challenge but I enjoyed it and had a nice man to keep me company although not too sure of the route because one orchard looks the same as the next and to make it more exciting there was thunder and heavy storms, however we got back before dark. I was pleased with my time of 1 hour 30 minutes with a nice goodie bag and of course cider. Would do it again.

Report by Debbie Goodale
Anna and Deb started the weekend in style travelling to London first class on the Wrexham and Shropshire (it was half price), we got extra sausages with our breakfast because we were doing the marathon. We met Gav at the Expo in Docklands where everyone tried to sell us more running stuff and get us to do more races! Anna lost her number and then found it again! After sunning ourselves by the water for a while we got the DLR to our dodgy hostel in Deptford. We quickly evacuated the hostel and went to Greenwich for tea. Race day dawned and the microwave broke (no porridge for Anna and Gav). We all went to our respective starts and waited with anticipation and some fear for the start! The race was an amazing experience (shame we couldn’t see Cutty Sark) with my fave bit being running over Tower Bridge and of course the Embankment and the Mall. The support was amazing, such a great experience as I think all will agree. On the way back Gav off to Lyneham in cattle class, Deb and Anna got back in the first class carriage and enjoyed free champagne, a 2 course meal and free puddings the perfect way to end the weekend!

Newcastle 7 Miles- 18th April
( Report by Kathy Ling)
It was a great day at Newcastle 7 miles. The first 2.5 miles were quite steep and it was a very long hill but well worth it. I had a very nice young mentor with me all the way round; my time was 1 hours 33 minutes. I am very pleased with the time because it is not an easy road race. The marshals looked after us very well, making the run very enjoyable. We had a great mug and a pack of teabags.

Just popped over to Wombourne.
I only did the 5K as I was recovering from yesterday’s race. Because there was a very long delay in collecting our race chips I was sent off last and the first person I saw was Paul Ward. Usual thing, he was in first and I was in last. I waited for Ross the come in and he looked good.

Karen Erskine & Kim Denning turned into Kathy Ling at the weekend! They travelled 250 miles to run 10K. The weather forecast was grim but on the day the sun shone on them. The run was along the seafront then up a sharp incline called the zig zag, along the top then back along the seafront for a medal, t shirt and free massage. There were 1292 entrants and a good time seemed to be had by all. The run was for the British Heart Foundation. A long way to go but if you are in the area then fully recommended. Kim & Karen finished in a time of 58.22 minutes

Sticky Toffee Trail Run 10K- 20th March 2010
Report by Kathy Ling
Looking at the race list I knew I had to have a go at this one, so off John and I went to Cumbria, a place named Cartmel home of the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The weather on the day deteriorated with plenty of rain. The race was 100% multi-terrain with mudstreams up to the knees and plenty of hills but I really enjoyed the run. The last kilometre was very tough with a very steep hill and very slippy mud so I was pleased with my time, 1:39 and the pud was very yummy.

Malta Half Marathon - 28th February 2010
Report by Kathy Ling
John and i flew to Malta last Thursday to warm sunshine, as last year was very cold. On Sunday morning at 6.30am the bus pick us up and took us to the start at Mdina. It was quite cold, but the brass band kept us amused. The marathon started at 8.am then the 1/2m at 9.am by this time the atmosphere was warming up. After 5k the sun came out,by 12k it was warming up and by 17k it was getting very hot, some runners were stressed out on the side of road. When approaching Sliema the last 4k, the crowd were very supportive and john met me with club flag feeling great over the finishing line. Unknown to us, problems with the leader car who took the first few fast marathon runners on the wrong course 3k extra one dropped out not happy bunnies. Time keeper and marshalls were like headless chickens not sure what time we did in the o/v65, many questions asked about the time of the 1st o/65 and mine but i did not want to get involved. i was given my 2nd prize on the Monday. Despite of all the confusion i really enjoyed the event a top class medal and a good t.s. would do it again.

Moelyci Fell Race - 21st February 2010
Report by Linda Edmondson
Finally got back on the fells at the Moelyci fell race (5 miles and just up one hill). It was a fun race with a nice covering of snow on the hill and a bit of a snow shower on the way down, but nothing too serious…. My time was 67.23 which was a bit slower than last year, but not too bad considering my lack of fell racing since last May. Great to be back!!!!
