Running Club Locker Room Being Fumigated

Attention to all of our members! We have some news regarding our club locker room; it appears that our makeshift place to change and store our running gear has finally attracted a few pests. We will be using some of the club funds to handle the situation, so there will be no request for contribution or such. We do ask that if you would like to keep your clothes and equipment pesticide free, please get your stuff before Monday next week, as the place will be sealed off until the chemicals dissipate. We’ve already spoken to the best Pest Control Folsom company to do this for us and scheduled it for that day.

Let this be a lesson and reminder to everyone, please don’t leave your dirty laundry for an extended amount of time in your locker. Also, please refrain from keeping anything edible in the locker; I don’t even understand why you would do so in such a place, I mean it kind of smells there. Which reminds me; that from now on we will be keeping a large container of Disinfectant Air Sanitizing Spray, and we encourage you guys to spray your locker before you leave the next time the locker room opens.

Dirty Shoes and Carpets in Salt Lake City

During a trip to Salt Lake City, I was invited over to say a few days at a friend’s house, we’ve known each other since middle school and my business trip was an excellent way for us to catch up. His home is quite beautiful, managed and kept tidy by his beautiful wife; I think it would be rude of me to state their names without asking them, so I won’t be.

They were the “No shoes indoor” type, which was fine since I found their carpeting to be very comfortable. On my first day, though I did a terrible thing; being unable to function well throughout the day without at least running 4 kilometers, I woke up early in the morning to do so. Unfamiliar with the terrain and the local area, I ended up walking on a muddy trail, which I totally forgot about on my way back. Exhausted and thirsty I thought about the bottle of sparkling water I put in the fridge the night prior, and head straight to the kitchen. After cooling myself off with the drink I realized that I forgot to take off my shoes, and much worse I discovered that I tracked a bit of mud on the entrance carpeting.

I panicked and tried everything to clean my mess while doing so my friend woke up and saw what I was doing. To my surprise, he did not get mad at me, as he was panicking as well, lucky for both of us his wife went out with her friends the night before and was asleep until noon. This exact situation happened to my friend before and knew exactly who to call, he was able to get someone from Carpet Cleaning Salt Lake City to come to their house that morning, got everything cleaned out and have them leave before his wife even woke up. Of course, we split the bill as it was my fault, I had offered to pay for the whole thing, but he insisted that he would pay half.

True Friendship

My visit to Salt Lake City reunited me with an old friend, in fact, it felt like the old days, getting each other out of trouble and making sure that only we would know of the events that transpired that morning. Hopefully, his wife would never read this entry and put the pieces together…The next morning my friend went on a run with me and showed me the best paths to take, and the morning after that his wife joined us, and we had breakfast at a café afterward.

I was hesitant to stay at my friend’s house at first, thinking it to be awkward since we have not seen each other for quite some time. But by doing so I was able to be reacquainted with a very good friend, and because of dirty trainers, a carpet and secret, our bonds became as strong as it was during our youth.

Running Away from the Problem

When I was younger, during my early 20’s, I wasn’t really used to stress. I lived a relatively spoiled childhood and teens; things were uneventful since everything was taken care of, a life never having to worry about much. It was only later on that I discovered that life wasn’t as easy as I was lead to believe, I wasn’t able to keep up with the job I got while at the same time handling personal problems in life. It was one early morning, awake due to the fact that I had to work overtime to finish a presentation due that day when I decided to just step out of the house without my wallet, phone, or even keys and just run, run away from it all.

Yes, it was a childish response, but what else would you expect from a person who was spoiled his whole life. I just needed to get away from everything; I ended up at a forest trail joggers usually go to every morning. Coincidentally enough, I was wearing sweatpants, trainers, and a hoodie, so I blended in quite well with the people there. So I decided to just keep on running, I was already warmed up from it anyway.

Finding Running Through Running

Prior to that day, I have done recreational running before, but mostly because I was forced to by a friend, relative, or PE teacher. It was different that day though; I was watching the sun rise through the trees as ran, thinking of all the things that stressed me out, and as my breathing changed I felt a change inside as well. I began to enjoy what I was doing at that moment, which was running, I was feeling better and slowly began to think about solutions to my problems, simple solutions that I was surprised I didn’t think of at the first place. It was at that time that I felt a sense of peace. I returned home afterwards, finished my work and went on with my day happier.

How Running Helped me

Obviously exercise is not just good for the body, but also the mind. I really needed to just relax my mind and give my body the exercise it needed, with my blood flowing, my breathing deep, and my mind relaxed I was able to become focused and figure out the solution to my problems. This is in fact true, it’s science after all, but there is more to it than that.

I needed something in my life that was only just for me, my alone time that wasn’t just Idle. Was it fate that led me to learning to love running or just happenstance? Whatever the reason, running is now my daily activity that helps me focus and centre myself.

The end of that work day I came home and crashed on top of the bed, I mean what would you expect would happen, I had no sleep, went on a 4km run, gone home to wash-up and strait to work. What a day that was though…
