Wrekin Road Runners were formed in 1992. In August of this year (2002), the club celebrated its 10th Anniversary. The evening started off with a game of ten-pin bowling at the Telford Bowling Alley followed by a meal at Caffé D'Italia. After the meal came the speeches and several hours later we were allowed to leave. The hard core then carried on to Athena to strut their stuff on the dance floor.

Wrekin Barrel race
Despite Sundays torrential rain, 9 full teams of runners were to be seen huddling under a large marquee in the middle of a field at the bottom of the Wrekin. Now this by itself may seem a very odd thing (it certainly did to the runners) but it get stranger. not only were they in the middle of a field huddling under a marquee, they were preparing to run up one of Shropshire's land mark hills with a 9 gallon barrel weighing in excess of 100lB.
Paris Marathon
Four members of Wrekin Road Runners travelled to Europe last weekend to compete in the Paris Marathon. John and Sarah Aston, Wendy Searle and Anthony Nicholls ran the 31st annual 26.2 mile event, around the beautiful streets of the City. The route started at the L'Arc de Triomphe taking in such sights as the Champs Elysees, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.
Ennstone 7 Mile Road Race
A brand new race, started by England international and Wolves legend Steve Bull, took place in Telford town park yesterday (Sunday). Supporters gathered to see Bully start the Ennstone 7 mile race, which had over 150 entrants, at 11 am in the arena. The race, organised by Wrekin Road Runners, was a tarmac course going out and back along the Silkin Way. Michelle Ross-Cope, who is ranked fifth in Britain over ten miles, won the race by a comfortable margin of almost two minutes in 38.52.
